Post How many have installed a cooling fan for IC ??

If you installed a Fan did it help? Talked to a guy at the track and he installed a electric fan from a Escort on his Lightnings IC. So is it worth the Fab work for the Track?? Looks like you could install to small fans to cool the IC when you setting at the track?

Question

Cant see why it wouldn't work, you figure its got to cool that fluid down with a fan.I'm planning on doing this in the next few weeks.

Got a question for you guys...Anyone know of a production vehicle that used or uses 6 inch fans for cooling?

I've been trying to find some out of salvage yard, no reason to buy new if used ones will work.

1BADFRD has one on his truck but since noone has installed any temp sensors noone really knows anything. 1BADFRD has a chip, filter, fans and recently 4.10 rearend. I'm stock. He couldn't beat me until he put in the gears. So the answer is theoreticly it should help but noone had done a definitive study. CAKA puts ice in his before he races.

I have heard IC fans may help at the strip to keep coolant cool when you are sitting around waiting to stage, but when you are on the highway, they actually impede the flow of air at highway speeds, which seems to make sense if you are going faster than the air speed of the fan. I suppose it is a personal preference on where you are gonna want to go fast, everything is a tradeoff.

I've got three 6" fans on my i.c. radiator. It's handy for cooling things down in the staging lanes. But is rather useless at speed. If you look in the Summit catalog at oil coolers you see you can get an optional fan. I called and ordered just the fans. I don't have the part nos.

At the track, I saw a guy in a 66 Mustang running 14.2s all day. My first race was against him, and I lost, well, he got there first. I guess you can say I gave him a head start. I pulled a 1.2 r/t, to his .6, I ran a 13.87 on that one.

Anyways, I happened to set up camp near him and he was spraying his radiator all day with a windex bottle full of water. This gets me thinking about bringing a big old fan, a D.C. fan, putting it right in front of the truck and hooking it up to the battery. This way no fabricating has to be done. Since its a truck, you won't have a problem lugging it around

I have two 10 inch fans on my IC. If you are looking for 6 inch fans from a salvage, check out a motorcycle salvage, most of the big bikes use 6 or 7 inch fans. I wanted new and couldn't find an six inch ones. New 10 inch fans are cheaper than used six inch ones!

As far as performance, no they did not make me go any faster, however; they made my truck consistent for bracket racing. I can do about 10 passes down the strip in a row in hot weather and get practically the same time. (I also have two 10 inch fans on the radiator).
