PRO-M MAF Question??
#1
The Prom-MAF is an 80mm MAF sensor that replaces the entire stock airbox, filter, and MAF sensor, or aftermarket air kit. It does include a new K&N filter, but is not of the open ended design.

Fastblack is correct, most of the improvement comes from the air filter replacing the airbox. The Pro-M MAF doesn't really do a lot for power until you get over about 400 horses, and then it's iffy. It does help to lean out the mixture just a bit, though.
I have spent the money and would suggest that your money would be better spent on a PSP, Downs, or Airaid filter kit (PSP is the best in IMHO).

Wow, some of these post are strange. I heard of some people getting 30+ hp from a pro-maf (swansson?). I myself got 0 hp and yes that was 0 hp out of my 80mm maf and K&N. Go figure some are more lucky than others, also I've heard talk that you have to dail these maf's in. I also have the dyno runs to prove this as well as some pulled hair. BTW both are for sale.

F1car,
Well heck your situation really surprises me.
With the Pro-M 80mm Mass Air & Danny Swanson Chip on the dyno I picked up 43 horsepower. The stock truck with just replacing the air filter with a K&N filter on the dyno it produced 325.8 horsepower. With the Pro-M 80mm Mass Air & Danny Swanson’s Chip the truck did 368.1 horsepower.
If you would like I could fax the dyno run sheets to you.
Good Luck!

FSUFAN,
Please don't take this wrong, I wasn't denying any above posts.
I'm still thinking about buying another MAF and was looking for other opinions.
I fact the tuner working on my L was so surprised with the out come he actually called the manufacture to enquire 'what’s the deal here'.
I got a free custom chip and payed for the MAF so it was a wash.
I’m glad someone is making good hp, chip alone I’m making 350 rwhp.
Good to see that you’re almost making 370 rwhp.

I dyno my L with a downs air system and it dyno 336wrhp,406.7 torque. Then i took the downs filter off and installed a PRO M80 mass air and it dyno 341.3 wrhp,409.3 torque. For the 5 hp gain I keep my downs air system.

I think some may be missing the point here of the benefit of the PRO-M. Granted if you already had an air filter (no chip) and added the MAF your gain is about 5 hp. But the advantage of the MAF doesn't really come into play without the chip. The PRO-M has the ability to flow more air than the stock unit but to take advantage of this you need the chip. To determine its real value someone needs to do the following dyno runs.
1. Filter only (PSP, DOWNS OR AIRRAID)
2. Filter and chip only.(chip must be programed for filter only, no PRO-M)
3. Filter, chip, and PRO-M (chip must be programed for PRO-M, otherwise tests is not valid.)
I think you will find interesting results for test 3.

Do you think the filter and chip combo (your #2) would be about the same as disconnecting the stock air box and running the L "filterless" on the dyno? When I get my mods done I'll see if I can come up with these 3 scenarios for the dyno. This way, we can try and settle some of these Pro-M disputes. Granted, I may not be able to do this for another month or two, but I would be glad to do some testing while I have the chance.

f1car,
No wonder you didn't make any power with your Mass Air meter. I see by your Dyno Sheet you were using a C&L. I have never had any luck with a C&L and most people here will probably agree. The C&L sampling tube is a real pain to get right. Go the Pro-M 80MM route you will see a gain.
A C&L and K&N filter does not equal a Pro-M in any way.
