Question single blade throttle body?

Forgive my ignorance, but what is it and what would it do?

Daniel,

The Lightning has a 2 bladed throttle. If you want to know what it looks like then remove the rubber hose from your throttle body on your truck, it's the hose/air inlet going to your supercharger from the airbox that has your air filter in it.

Anyway there is some/lots of restrictions there. A single bladed throttle body would have less restrictions/flow better. Less restrictions for air getting to the engine could be good for 1 to 3 tenths in the quarter mile mebbe less, mebbe more.

Also I'm hoping that somebody will come up with a better hose, if you will, from the airbox to the throttle body. This must be somewhat restrictive. The Mustangers and the Rice Bender call then power pipes. Some are metal and some are plactic. They are smooth on the inside which helps air flow better.

Thumbs up

John I just sold my 99 corvette to buy a 00 lightning. I helped create a smooth air tube made from carbon fiber from the MAF to the TB. It made 5hp at the wheels. Anyway goto www.corvettec5.com and look at it if enough people are interested in this piece I will make one for the lightning?

Don't we have a minor issue with engine flex
(movement) with a rigid air tube. From the stock airbox to every other air filter setup for the L is in some way anchored to the engine bay.

I'm sure it can be overcome, just don't want to leave it out in the design.

Anyway, I've got to believe there is a better way than stock. Build it they will come.

My other observation is that the bend at the rear of the top of the blower, which all the air must pass around to enter the blower, looks really restrictive too. Can't say that I've had a peak inside. But all the work in the world will be for not if the smallest air passage is not opened.

I believe that BABolt has a pretty good idea of where the most restrictive spot is on the filter to blower path, judging by his recently posted pictures.

Just my $0.02

WHAT04,

You are sorta right.... there is plenty of flex on the hose from the air box to the throttle body, however the air tubes, cold air induction, power pipes, flow tubes or whatever you may call them have a silicone hose that attaches them to each end with a big hose clamp. Whatever flex you have will be taken up there.

Tom,

Carbon fiber would be nice. Can you do colors, or red silicone hose at each end?

Any idea what price for this?

You might want to e-mail me with price.

Yea!
I posted several photos the other day. I don't know if anyone really looked at them very close. I might know where the restriction is in the inlet air path. Did anyone look close at the photos?

How about a really close up inside view.

Since you were asking about a single blade throttle body. I will tease you with another photo. I posted this earlier this week and stated that I did not think anyone would guess what it was. It is a chunk of billet with a logo on it. That logo will be on the top of my new polished billet oval port throttle body which I hope to test within the next week or two. This is the image that you will see in the plan view of that throttle body.

One last item. Tom 91722 please do build a carbon fiber inlet tube. I thinks it would look great. If you are in need of hoses I have a source that can mold hoses any size, shape and color to a limited extent. I have used them on my Pro-M meter and adapter.

One last item. I am working on a custom MAF meter all the electronics will be hidden on the lower surface so that it will give the illusion of a simple adapter tube. This will be a "for show" item but will also improve performance too.

Additional information. Long tube header are started 1.75 diameter primary tubes into a 3 inch collector with marmon clamps at the end (this is the finest clamp that you can use). Two bungs in each collector, two for the O2 sensors, the additional two for testing or for an air/fuel (rich /lean) meter. I will post photos.

babolt - if that "chunk of billet" logo was a quite a bit larger, it could become a cool custom hitch plug for the back of a lightning...
would let the people behind you know what just flew by...
