Post '00 Lightning dyno'd (just the facts ma'am)

During the controversy on one of the other topics, I said I'd post the results of my friend's dyno pulls in his '00 L.

Just to preface the scenario...

I took my LX over to SpeedWorks in Lewisville. It's a fairly new shop and they were having a special 8 hours for $600 deal. We got 20 vehicles there, so we made 3 pulls for $30. I haven't changed the tune on this car in a year. It runs like clockwork, so I was just there to see how _accurate_ this dyno was compared to the other TWO I've dyno'd this car at. Both the other shops were within less than 1% of each other. This one was no different. First pull 586rwhp/587rwtq. Seems like these dyno's are pretty darn accurate amongst themselves to _me_...given proper and routine calibration. This dyno is only 2 months old, so its just been calibrated by Dynojet.

Anyway, here's what you wanted to see. '00 L, bone stock, 1000 miles on it. Made 3 pulls and best was 340rwhp/436rwtq. Worst pull was like 333rwhp, I believe. Guess my 362rwhp (best pull) with just a chip might not be bogus?

FWIW, we had access to the latest software enhancement by DynoJet. Other places have this too, of course, but its a wide-band A/F meter. My buddy's truck runs pig-rich with the stock factory programming. Oh my. It was like 10.5:1 or so. I figure that's where a lot of these chips are picking up power...just leaning it out some. Even on 93 octane gas, with the low base CR and only 8-10psi of boost, you should be able to run 12.2:1 or so. There's lots of power locked away...but we all knew that.

Oh, and while it was a short day, it was productive for me since I kept a safe A/F ratio on my motor, added a whopping ONE degree of total timing across the board and picked up 11hp/3tq. Spitting distance from 600. Now if I can just put the car on a diet and have the guts to powershift the 5-speed.

Mine is just a Superchip. I've had it since Sept. '99. Installed it with 800 miles on the truck, and I wouldn't look back for anything.

Certainly a custom chip _might_ be better (REALLY depends on the programmer...been around this too long and have seen a LOT of bad programming when it comes to 5.0 and 4v 4.6 Mustangs), but this one in my truck works great.

Videoman,

When the truck ran that time it was in late Feb. of this year. Air quality was outstanding (45^F, 30.xx" baro press., low humidity) and the track was hooking great.

The mods at that time were 1) Superchip and 2) PSP inlet tube/filter kit. That was it! Since then I've added a TransGo shift kit, which helped the shifts tremendously...but I haven't run the truck at the track yet. I figure if I got the same air/track conditions, it would break into the 13.1x for sure. BTW, the rest of that day at the track, the truck ran consistent 13.3/13.4s/102-103 even hot-lapping it.

Doug, you will like this shop...and its super close to you. Just west of The Colony off of 121. Clean shop and good people. You and F1 and sixpipes should get over there sometime.
