Cool Dyno Run

I was very pleased today. I took my L' to my buddy Donnie at Flat Rate Racing(Pearland, Tx) and had him Dyno my 2000 Lightning. I have a little over 1900 miles on my L'

Here are the results:

First Pull..... Max Power 314.4
..... Max Torque 397.5

Second Pull.... Max Power 307.6
.... Max Torque 410.9

There was 15 minutes between pulls.

My L' is bone stock, still has the factory air filter(waiting for Sal's filter that I ordered. hint, hint Sal )

So now I'm going to order one of Sal's chips.

Very with the results.

How many miles did your Lightning have when you had the pulls done? Not bad numbers. You are the first of the 2000 batch that I know of that has benn dynoed.

Hey Jarmstro,

How does your stock 2000 Lightning compare to my 1999 stock Lightning, look for the green line.

I had a MAF, K&N air filter, and a custom chip made for me, look for the red and blue line. I went from stock 325 rwhp to 350 rwhp. I would expect the same results or better from Sals setup.

I would be really interested if you would post your dyno run for us all to see, you can always use my web post if needed.

Hey F1car,

Are the spikes on your dyno run the shift points?

No the spikes are when your transmission fully applies the torque converter; the transmission is applying all of the power that the motor is making 1 to 1 no slipping. I don’t know a lot about it but the dyno guys dismissed it as an artifact and not a true representation of H.P.

f1car,

I'm curious as to how many miles did you have on your 1999 L' before you went to the dyno?

I beleive the graph on yours as well as mine where there was a big dip is the transmission shifting. I was watching the tach on the dyno when all this was happening. The shift is slow and mushy without a chip to improve it. Our run was "raw" the barometric pressure(29.85) and intake air temperature(83.5 F) were not factored in.

I'm not able to post my dyno sheet cause don't have a scanner although I'm surprised I don't. I only have six PCs networked together. My desk and rack is only so big. Way I make my living.

Afternoon John:
dynoed mine last July and got 307 unchipped and 329 chipped (Superchip). Have not had a chance to do it after Sal's air filter and the full Bassani exhaust.
We ran mine in third gear as I recall because of wheel spin/slip in the lower gears. Can't find the printout, but I believe it was quite flat. BTW torque figures were within 1-2 foot pounds of yours too stock.

Jarmstro, How much did Donnie charge you to put your truck on his dyno? If its a fair price, I wouldnt mind taking the 20 mile trip over to his shop and see what mine does. Thanks!

Hey Dogleg,

I had about 4900 miles on my L when it was dynoed. Also I remember that my pulls where in 4th gear.

There were two monitors one for the tac and one for the speed-o and I remember seeing 135mph before they shut her down.

The dyno run was corrected but I also got the uncorrected data and it was basiclly the same off by 2-4 hp, don't quote me on this one.

Send me a e-mail and I'll show you how to post pictures and you can use my web page to do it, if needed.

Bill:

I would be interested what yours would do after Sal's filter and the Bassani exhaust. I have one of Sal's filters coming.

From what I gather the present exhaust sytem does quite well. But a little quiet for me.

I'm not new to the lightnings stuff. I had a black '94 I raced at Houston Raceway Park often and Fun Ford Weekend in Ennis. Did well no losses, best time was 13.10 @105. Would have broke into the 12s but ran radials all the time. Then dummy me sold it (in '95) and went thru 3 Mustangs 1 T-Bird and an SVT Contour since then. Oh well....

I have had 6 Mustangs altogether, some were fast and some real fast. What I have learned over the years is no matter how fast you are somebody else is faster. The only limits is money.

Hey f1car,
I have a dyno run that looks like a table top. It goes straight up and stays there until about 5,200 rpm. I would love to have the guys look at it and give me some help, BUT I don't know how to put it there. Will you give me you address so I can send you the file and you can help me post it?
I appreciate your help.

Thanks F1car,
Yes I am and I'm just a little embarrassed to say that I tried typing in your address and could not get it to carry me to you.
I went to Yahoo and tried there also, no luck. I am new to this damn computer and it's as bad as that damn truck sometimes. Any more help would be great.

Danny at swansonperformance tells me he has already burned 5 of his chips for lightnings. I think I'll post and ask about that.
