removing wax from plastic
removing wax from plastic
I had the dealer put one of those "perma plate" finishes on my truck which is just and expensive wax but they got some on the plastic around the rear window and some on the tailgate handle, is there anything I can do to get it off?
Good question! I have put regular wax on my truck and have got a little happy with it! Now it seems like the wax just reappears on the plastic. After I put Armor All on it the wax goes away. After a couple of washes - shazaam, wax is back.
I'm with you. Help!

I use armor all and a tooth brush (not the one from my bathroom). Usually gets it all off and if not it wears away after a couple of washes.

I havent tried it yet but I've heard that peanut butter will take the white off black plastic and rubber also. I have used the 'quick detailer' like meguires mist and wipe stuff, that has worked fine if the wax hasnt been on the black for a long period of time.

Remove the wax, especially from black trim like fender flares or body side mouldings or splash guards with isopropal alcohol. You can use it right out of the bottle or medical alcohol prep pads. Works everytime.

Wax Shop makes a bumper black product that works fairly well for wax removal. I try to work it in with an old toothbrush. It's a thick liquid, so it's pretty easy to control where it goes.

I bought myself a container of Mother's "Back to Black" today, with hopes of getting rid of some sloppy wax jobs (not my fault!) leaving hideous white marks on many places on my truck.
This stuff is freaking magic. With minimal effort it not only stripped the wax marks off the plastic pieces, but brought the color back all my external plastic pieces, bedliner edges, mirrors, side steps etc.. Good stuff..

Well most of this thread is how to get the wax off the black once it's on, but I figured I'd post a little tip on how to prevent the wax from getting on there in the first place (if you wax your own truck). Some people use tape to mask it off, but I find it's easier to just apply the wax with your fingers when you are near the black trim. I waxed my truck 4 weeks ago and haven't seen any wax on the black.
Oh, this tip probably only works if you're applying paste wax and not liquid.
