I got a letter in the mail yesterday saying that my free trial subscription was up "in a few days." I'm going to call them today or tomorrow and pick a plan. I'd consider the lifetime, but I believe they're in bankruptcy protection right now (chap. 13, I think).
They are not in bankruptcy protection right now, they haven't even filed anything. Where did you hear that?
Has anyone gone to cancel and they've thrown some ridiculously low monthly rate at them?
I have to tell you - I like Sirius but, it's not worth the coin to me on a monthly basis. If it were more in the realm of $5/month, I may keep it but, I'd really like to have my computer-based listening back and included within my monthly fee.
I may be back to the ole Zune and terrestrial very soon...
There was a period earlier this year when XM-Sirius was talking about filing bankruptcy. At the last minute, someone came in with an equity infusion that got them out of immediate trouble. They did not file bankruptcy (yet).
I've been going 6 mos at a time. I use the sat radio mostly, ipod touch on occasion. AM radio in the am for traffic stuff, rush or rome on the lunch hour, that's about it. I could just get rid of my trucks antenna...

I had an add-on Sirius radio in another vehicle and got rid of it about the time my year subscription was up because I wasn't willing to pay $13/mo for it anymore. Other than 1-2 stations I barely listened anymore. Some of the stations like Blue Collar Comedy play the same things over and over and over. When I got the new truck, I turned on Blue Collar and heard the same stuff I heard a 2 years ago.
My sister-in-law just told me this past weekend that she was recently offered a $5/mo, buy 6 months, get 6 free plan to extend her XM from the initial new car subscription. I'm not sure if that was an alacarte (sp?) plan or a full plan. Alacarte would be fine with me--I couldn't find 50 stations on there I'd want. I barely found 10 to put on my presets. I also didn't realized the internet subscription was extra now. To me, that lowered the value further.
I'd previously told my wife that $5/mo is the max I would pay for it after my 6 months is up. Also due to their financial instability, there's no way I'd give them more than a few months cash up front. I might be willing to do the $30/year thing--on a credit card so that if they go belly up I have a chance at getting some money back. Now that I know they'll do it, when my time is up, I plan to ask for a supervisor and give them an ultimatum--give me that plan or don't ever contact me again because I'm not going to play games.
Got my letter too, they want to give me a year for $9.69 mth, which isn't too bad, I suppose...I just really don't find their service has that much better sound quality if any over regular fm and not to mention going under a bridge.
I finally settled on $38.85 for three months. In August, I'll see if I still want it. At this rate, it's about $3.50/week. I spend more than that in gas station sodas every week.
hey mitch150, the internet is always right, WMDs were in Iraq, and Anna Nicole married for love. LOL. I don't remember where I heard it, but it could be down again tomorrow. Who knows?
