2008 F-350 Sirius hookup to Starmate 4 question

OK, my dad for father's day is getting a Starmate 4 for his big ol' F-350. It does not come with a factory version which is good, so he can take it and put the Starmate in his boat too. My question is, to get a good reception, I myself have a FM direct adapter, for his, can you run a wire to the sat and plug into the ipod connector he has on the dash? I heard it was basically the same as an IP bus cable or the FM direct. Only difference is you'd have to switch off the regular radio or something and operate like you would an ipod. I've never done it, the ipod thing, but heard you do it this way anyways.

Reason for the reception question is so he doesn't have to play around with finding stations all the time (his eyes aren't all that great, so kinda want set and forget). Otherwise I'll get him the FM direct adapter and hook that up.
