Roady XT mounting

Thanks....how do you mount your antenna? Where do the wires run? Have saw were people mounted it under the wiper cowl..that is my other option. Not real keen on putting it on my paint...Let me know how you ran the wire. I saw you ran it under the rubber tray...Did you drill a hole under the rubber tray...Thanks..

While the radio was pulled out, I removed the 2 screws holding the plastic tray. It just slides out. I put a very small (about 1/8 inch) notch in the back edge of the tray. It's not even visible when the tray is put back in place. I'm not sure if it was really necessary, but I didn't want to crimp the antenna wire.

Mounting the antenna on the dash leaves a lot of excess wire, so I just zip-tied the excess. I mounted the antenna on the dash because it was the most convenient place. I didn't want it mounted through the third brake light because I use a drive-through carwash on occasion. The only time I lose reception is when pulling into the garage. Otherwise, it hasn't lost reception once.

Valley...Thanks....I put mine in last night (temporary) and believe it or not, I get 3 bars setting in my garage. Backed out and lost reception...Moved it around a bit and it came back. I will try and do as you did. I really like it there if the reception will stay. I don't have the PIE (yet) but my sound quality is pretty darn good. No static at all (at least I can't hear it)

I tried and thought about the alternate ways of mounting the antenna. Started w/ the third brake light, but wasn't keen on the potential leakage, and also when I went to take it out, the underside of the brake light was about to pierce the wire. So I was glad I took that out. Then I said to myself, "I am 6'4" and I can bareley see the top of the truck, so nobody else is going to see it." I mounted it right above the rear drivers-side door. There is a very easy way to go under the rubber when you open the door, took me all the way to the front easily and in the cab. I was able to track it around the dash, along the window and to my unit. All the excess wire I was able to run back and forth between the dash and window. There is a lot of space there to easily tuck it under for the no-show look. When you mount it to the roof, just make sure that the area is clean so there's no dirt to scratch the paint. I also put some masking tape on the underside of my antenna so as to act as a buffer between magnet metal and paint. I spent several hours attempting the third brake light experiment and then about 20 minutes with the other.
