1985 f150 blown engine

Hi, new to the forum and need some input. I blew my 4.9 and am looking for a low cost engine swap. Would love it to give me better fuel mileage. Thanks

Find another 4.9. Nothing else is going to get you better mileage.

Thanks for the input. Kind of what I figured. Any idea how new I can go? Mine is no smog carburetor with auto.

Still basically the same motor even in the EFI years, they can be converted back to carb. An awful lot of those motors stuffed into early 90's trucks. In Canada they had a model called the Enforcer; pretty much all of them came with 4.9's

I thought one of your goals was to increase fuel mileage?

It is. Not finding inexpensive decent 4.9 on a very low budget

There's a lot more to a V-8 swap than meets the eye - you would have to do a full carb conversion and electronics delete.

What's blown on your 4.9? Is it rebuildable?
