92 f150 stalls when put in reverse

i got a 92 f150 and the truck idles fine when i shift the truck in to reverse the truck stalls out it starts right up. i have to keep my foot on the throttle to get it to shift but any time i try to let it idle in reverse it will stall out.
it also stalls out in drive but not to often
if anyone has suggestions on what to check or what to replace
i woulds greatly appreciate the help

First is the trans the E4OD (OD lockout button on shifter), or the AOD (no button)?

Second, do you have a haynes manual?

Third, have you checked for codes? If not, read this...

If you have an E4OD, it is very likely the transmission filter fell into the pan. As mentioned above, have you pulled codes? I would definitely check codes prior to pulling the trans pan.

my 90 with a e4od use to do that at random for years, in reverse, i had the trans rebuilt a few weeks ago, it was time, 200,000 miles and was starting to skip when starting for a stop and made a whine in park, anyway it hasnt done it scene, think it might of been the torque convertor locking up.
