1996 Manual to Auto swap

Here's the situation have to have another knee surgery and won't be able to push the clutch in for months. Honestly have trouble now after driving for a few hours. So I have to either swap out my manual for an automatic or sell the truck and get another with an auto.
  • I currently have 1996 5.0L 4x4 F150. (M50D-R2)
  • I have a line on a non-plateable 1993 5.8L 4x4 with an automatic for around $500. Can't see it until at least tomorrow.
  • I also have a 1996 5.0L 2wd parts truck sitting in my yard. Looking up the transmission code (U) it appears to be a 4R70w

I know the 1996 is OBDII and the 1993 isn't so here's my questions
  1. Will the ECM out of the 1996 2wd work to control the tranny out of the 1993? I'm guessing it will be a E4OD as the 4R70W was 2wd drive only.
  2. Are the ECM's 4x4 aware? Like do I basically have to find a 1996 4x4 auto to strip? Or is that even a factor

Thanks in advance

The 4R70W was offered in both 2wd and 4wd, but the 351 never had it, it used E4OD only.

Can't help you with the electronics issue, but physically you will need a 4R70W or E4OD out of a 4wd truck.
