Well, i'm back into the f-series

picked up an 89 light duty 3/4 ton. xlt lariat. It's wimpy. 302 5 speed 3.55 gears and a rear 9.75 axle. It has a fuel delivery issue, so it doesn't run. I have an idea of what it is though!

I don't think Ford had the 9.75" rear in 1989 - they had the 8.8, 9, 10.25, and Danas.

I've never seen a 10.25 in a half ton from the factory. It isn't an 8.8?

its axle code 29. if i remember correctly. It has the 10.25/10.5 diff cover, but doesnt have the protruding axle end like the 10.25/10.5's It definitely isn't an 8.8!

Is there a tag on the axle itself?

That is a semi-float axle then without the "protruding axle end" () then vs a full floater.

Used on the lighter GWVR F-250s in semi-float style with an 8 lug configuration commonly.

It is a 5 lug?

Gonna need a picture of the diff, hub, and tag.

Oops - I think we both missed that!

I've been doing some reading - I think what you have is a beefed up F-150 labeled a F-250 - just like the 97-98 "F250LD", which became the F-150 7700 package. If you have a 302 with a 5 speed, the tranny is probably a M5R2, not what you want for doing any kind of heavy work. However, if 1st gear is a granny, it's a ZF. From what I can find, you probably have a Stirling 10.25" semi-floater axle.

Dude, I swear that said F150 up front.

More common than ya think, as I've seen a few of the "heavy halfs" as I call 'em badged F250s.

302 with AOD or M5OD-R2, semi float sterling 10.25 rear, 8 lug Dana 44HD TTB front end, and a low GVWR.

It's says "light duty 3/4 ton" in his original post, which is unedited. So it very well could be a beefy 150 labeled a 250 like a 7700.

I've never seen such a discussion about a rear axle that isn't broken or needing anything done on it where you would actually need to know which it was
