Your opinion about a swap?

Should I swap my 89 Lariet 6-cyl EFI/5-spd in good condition and 183K for a 95 Flareside 5.0 EFI/Automatic in good condition and 200k?

Unless you want to "upgrade" to the '95 or want a V8, I wouldn't. You know more about your truck than you do the '95 with maintenance, actual condition, etc. They're both old, high mileage trucks, so the safer bet is the one you have and know.

It really depends on the factors motivating the potential switch, but that's my opinion.

At 183K the 4.9 is barely broken in; at 200K the 5.0 is going to need freshened.
I wouldn't do it.

Like KMAC said, you know what you want and why. And I also agree with Strange, I'd keep the 6, but then, I'm kinda partial to that engine. Let us know your choice. Peace, Dave.

Thanks, guys!

Y'all just sort of confirmed my notions. The six is such a good engine. Better mileage, smoother running, and you're right - I know how well it has been taken care of. And you know what? I think it's a better looking design. Especially when I have it painted in our Auburn Tigers colors - Blue and Orange! This old engine is good for another 50k at least. And I think the 4.9 might be faster than the 5.0.

I agree with ya! I actually love the '95 body style, but ya can't beat an old brick nose. They all look good, better than the new ones for sure.

I'm gonna be in so much trouble compiling vehicles over time . . . lol

You should be good for another 120k, zhmmy. These sixes are 300k mile motors. Good luck, Peace, Dave.
