Hi I just bought a 95 xl with the 4.9 six 300 efi. the front gas tanks fuel pump needs replacing . which route to take: A . drop the tank or B. remove the bed and access from top. told by a friend the bed removal is ezer.
Definitely bed removal. A "friend" once told me dropping the tank was easier. Thanks to him I've done it both ways now, but I'll never drop a tank again...if I can help it.
thanks for the confirmation. my friend is a chevy guy , and really not the close of a friend so wanted to confirm. ordered the haynes manual for future reading/projects.
Pull the bed for sure. Worst case you need a torch to blast through rusted bed bolt mounts, but I still prefer that vs. dropping rusty tanks. The front tank actually you only need to slide the bed backwords on a few 2x4's if you don't have enough friends to help lift.
planning on taking off the tailgate and extending my cherry picker out as far as it will go and use some straps to lift the bed. hassle trying to get three buds together and get the job done quickly .
Hey mosquito13, when can I borrow your cherry picker? I changed out my front tank pump a few years back, and should have done both front and back at that time. Good luck, and where in Fla are you? I'm in St. Cloud.
