Question C-6 Rebuild

I'm looking to rebuild the c-6 transmission on my 1973 F250. 360 c.i. with NP205 divorced transfer case. It looks like I would be spending almost 300 dollars to buy the rebuild kit if I was to do the work myself. I would have probably pay another 200 to get it towed to the shop to work on it myself. I was quoted $700 to have a trans shop do the rebuild. Does that price seem reasonable to have it rebuilt professionally?

-Thanks for the opinions

Yeah, I'm considering a swap to a manual trans. I need to figure out my summer internship before I drop the cash. I would prefer to switch over to a Borg Warner T-5 so I could get overdrive/better fuel economy. We'll see...
