Starting issue **

I have an 88 6 cylinder straight six. When its been driven more than 15-20 miles it doesn't want to start back up right away... I can usually get it started after a few minutes/tries and it runs well when its crunk but it seems like something is getting hot maybe?? I've replaced the ignition, starter, cylinoid, altenator and even the spark plugs and wires. I'm honestly pretty much a noobie so I really would appreciate the help.. BTW when I replaced altenator, the guy at the parts store was convinced that the engine was a 91.

So during a hot start, does it crank and not fire, or not crank.

Most likely either the ignition coil or the stator in the distributor. Possibly, but very unlikely, the ignition module on the side of the distributor.

I would try the coil first as it's easiest to replace. To replace the stator, you have to remove and disassemble the distributor.

I see in your first post you said you replaced the ignition. Would you explain.

TFI module on the side of the dizzy for your year has those classic symptoms. Some of the better Napas and Autozones have the ability to test them.

Awesome advice guys thanks. I'm going to look into it and let everyone know the results..
Is it easy to test that TFI module? And is replacing the coil a good idea to be on the safe side?

Some of the I-6's had a heat shield on the fuel line, if it doesn't then it sounds like a vapor lock to me.

That is alot easier to check out first before you start ripping into the dizzy.

Read these captions:

Have you checked that the starter is solidly attached to the bellhousing?
