86 Cat removal?

I have an 86 with the 5.0, is there any issues or tricks to removing the catalytic converter? Emissions isn't an issue because of its age, are there any sensors or vacuum issues i would need to address?

Disclaimer: Whether you are subject to an emissions inspection or not, removing a cat is still illegal as per federal law. Just so you know.

There is nothing on the market if that's what you're asking, like the new diesel markets offer.
Just get a piece of pipe the right diameter and a littler longer than the cat and have at it.
Or take it to an exhaust shop.

take it to an exhaust shop.
An exhaust shop won't touch it - that's a $10k fine if caught.

you could take it to a shop, but you would have to get high flow cat put on. LoL I am going to do that when I decided on which I want.

I would like to see any exhaust shop around here that gave half a hoot on emissions laws.

I finally got under there today, and there is one tube coming off the cat, not sure where it goes yet, and what issues I will have there.

that is part of the emmissions icut and blucked the hole up at the engine when i took my cats off my 95. it should have a rotted up clamp holdin it onto the exhaust then goes uo the passenger side by the header then goes into a rubber hose with a check valve then goes up to the top front of the motor

I was always told that if you get pulled over to just say you did it yourself after the truck was inspected.
I can get away with it though cause my cat is there.. just empty haha.
Gutted the kitty!!

DON NOT PLUG OFF THIS PIPE!! That tube is the A.I.R tube that runs from the thermactor air diverter valve to the cat. That valve will divert the air from the A.I.R pump to either that tube or to the heads. Blocking this off will not only put some added drag on the engine when diverted to the tube, but ruin the A.I.R pump and or T.A.D as well. IMO replace the stock cat with a highflow cat. They're not that expensive. I bought mine from Jeg's for about $70 and you can get them with the A.I.R tube provision to make things easier. That way your legal, doing the environment a favor, and keep the emission and inspection people happy.
