Running very rough. Even worse when in drive.
Sounds like at about 2000rpm while in drive it has a pinging sound possibly coming from valve cover. or something rattling around in there.

I was stupid enough to siphon some old gas from the front tank to the rear tank which had been in there for a long period before I bought the truck. I ran lucas gas treatment through four tanks of gas. It has not helped.

A friend advised me to take off the valve cover and find what it rattling then replace it from there. I have never attempted this kind of repair. I am handy, patient,and good with my hands.

Any advice is truly appreciated. I cannot afford a mechanic and if I lose this truck I will lose my job.

Buy a high-quality silicone or nitrile gasket - NOT cork.

 

I have not yet tore it down to the valve cover gasket. The pinging sound seems to have disappeared. However now there is a constant stream of smoke coming out of the tail pipe. I am losing oil though. It appears as white smoke.
