ford f150 shifter won't shift and is lose

Got in my truck today and when I went to put it in gear the shifter went free it's just loose and will not shift to any gear. ford f150 1995 is this a self fixer or does it need to go to the garage?

The answer to that question depends on what is broken and on your level of ability.

Assuming it's a Mazdog M5OD tranny (you didn't say), it's easy to get the top cover off the tower and see what's wrong. If it's just the shifter then fixing/replacing it is easy. If the problem is with the forks/rails it's way more complicated.

Or if you have an automatic, there are two torx screws up under the steering column that hold the shifter mech. that back out and require a tighten. T50 if I remember right.

Welcome to the forum.

It would REALLY help to know what transmission you have. Read this caption:

If it's an auto, click my tan CV in my signature & read the captions in the Steering Column album.

Hey Jeffre,

Same thing just happened to me. Do you mind telling me how to fix it? I have 2004 F150 FX 4x4 Automatic.

Howdy and welcome. Good on ya for searching, but you are in the pre '97 section. Head on up out of the basement to the '04+ section. I haven't taken a newer column apart yet.
