95' F150 4X4 will not shut OFF.

Was driving home after a routine drive from work, parked my truck and attempted to turn off the vehicle. The ignition turns back as it should and I am able to remove the key..... But the truck is still running. It is not engaging somehow or feels very loose like its just spinning.

I am able to switch to the empty tank and d/c battery to save it. Also can start the truck back up no problem and drive off again.

Any suggestions? Thanks

If the ignition switch feels broken, I'd say it is. Easy to change, and costs about 45 bucks at napa.

There is a little access hole to hit the release, but I've never been able to get it. Not to hard to unscrew your tilt wheel control (if you have) and unscrew the lower column cover with three or four screws to remove. Insert key, turn to on, press small screwdriver into access hole, and slide old unit out. When you have the new switch, be sure not to turn the key back until fully inserted, or it all comes apart.

Provided the column is the same as a 90..
Turn the key to run, right before start position and there is a little hole on the underside of the ignition switch, push it in with a drift or a pin or something like that then pull the ignition switch out.
It's a real bugger to get the new one lined up correctly, may be easier with the wheel off.

Similar concept, but not the same column.

Sounds like the plastic actuator rod has broken inside the steering column. Similar to the older actuators that would break in the tilt wheels of 87-91 trucks. In 92, the column was redesigned and the "actuator", is a plastic rod instead of the old pot metal piece.

Have remote start? My 96 did this one day and I messed around with it for about 30 mins trying to get it to shut off. After I tried everything I hit the remote start button and it shut off and I never had the problem again.
