Front drive shaft hitting transmission crossmember with 6" lift

ever since i installed the lift i saw how ungoly clsoe the front driveshaft was to the transimmision crossmember. about 1/8th of an inch of clearance. now when the front left suspension droops, i can hear the driveshaft screeching on the crossmember. from what i have read no modicfication was needed but i definitly need to do something about this. i was thinking of cutting a v out out of the member and welding two plates making a dip in the crossmember to clear it. anybody else have this problem??? its an 85 f150 4wd 302 efi 6" skyjacker lift

i could be wrong but i think you can clock the transfer case to gain more clearance. i don't know how bad that would effect the linkage

You would probably have to completely redo the linkage to rotate the transfer case.

thanks guys im just suprised no one else with a 6z" lift has had this problem. i dont know how skyjacker makes an 8" lift for this with no kind of t case drop or something. i think i might jsut v notch the crossmember than reweld two plates dropping down for clearance. some buddies told me to jsut notch it and thats it but i dont really feel safe donig that

From what I've heard the only time anyone ever has drive shaft problems is if you go over 6"
I'm sure you need extended shafts for the 8"

I just happen to have an old Skyjacker crossmember drop for a 6 in kit for a 90 F150. Didn't install it when I did the lift cause it had clearance. But my 84 Bronco with 6 in lift is the same way. Might finally install that bracket. Looks like you have to cut the crossmember to install. If you have some fabrication skills, it wouldn't be too difficult to make your own. Now that I think about it, might have been a Superlift kit.

gears2 have you had any other problems? i have a 95 f150 4x4 shortbed and i want a 4 or 6" rough country lift. everyone says i wont have problems with the 6" but the front drive shaft rubbing the cross member sounds like a problem to me!
