new here have a few questions

ive been reading the forum for a while and I have a few questions.

I first bought the truck from my grandma as it sat for about 3 years.
I work in the oil fields and my car was not liking the oil based mud.

its a stock 94 supercab short bed with the 302. it just turned over 140k and still runs pretty good. the trans is startin to show its age so I wanted to know what kinda tranny I have in my truck so I can order the right rebuild kit.

and I came home today from work and there was a package on my door step. brand new auburn lsd for ford 9" 28 teeth 10 bolt all ratios. I wanna know what axle my truck has and if I can use this?

then I wanna know what 4" lift kit I can get thats quality and not gonna break the bank as I just had a new born and he is quite expensive already

To find out what tranny you have, look on the door jamb sticker. What's the TRANS code? E4OD is code "E", 4R70W is code "U". 5 speed M5OD-R2 manual is "M".

Your rear axle will be an 8.8", sorry.

Your truck may already have limited slip though, a lot of these did from the factory. That's also something that you can figure out from the door sticker. Another tranny code is T, which I have and it's AOD (Automatic w/overdrive, not electronic). Our resident genius is Steve83, lemme see if I can find something he posted about the door sticker...

Edit: Here ya go, again all credit goes to steve83 for the material:

A 94 will not have an AOD. If you have a limited slip, the first digit of the AXLE code will be a letter.

well I have the 4r70w trans. b&m offers a shift kit but not a trans pack kit for that transmission. summit racing has a TCI over haul kit for about 380 dollars.

does anyone know of any place cheaper? I plan on doing the over haul in about a month when I get my next days off

the axle code is a 19. I really want to use this lsd so im gonna see if I can exchange the unit since this is still brand new in the box. or what ford 9" can I get to put into this truck? ive done alot of mechanical work but never swapped axles. I do have abs on this truck so im not sure if swapping axles will interfer with that or not. im going to be putting on 33's so do I need to regear for those? if so what gears would I need to look into

You can't PUT a 9" in there without swapping out the entire axle assembly. Can't you exchange it for a LSD unit for the 8.8?

You have 3.55 gears. I'd run 4.10's with 33's.

your right, I called auburn they said they would exchange the unit for no charge which is good for me. 4.10's do you know of any converters that would show me what rpm i would be at doing 70?

at summit racingi can pick up a 4.10 gear set for 150ish is this what i will need for the lsd and new gears? why did i keep reading everywhere that it usually cost about 1000 dollars to do?

The bulk of the expense in regearing is labor. It's not plug and play, it's very time consuming and precise to get the new gearset set up correctly. If you've never done it before, I'd recommend you get some professional help.

Also, that price probably does not include an install kit, which you really should get.

http://4lo.com/calc/gearratio.htm

At 70 mph in OD, you will be turning 2045 rpm with 4.10's and 33's. With 3.55's it will be 1775.

I would like to put a 4" lift on but im unsure of something. the 4wd and 2wd use the same front suspension so can I use a 4wd kit for my year of truck? I cant seem to find a 2wd lift only 4wd lifts

ok so just picked up a 6" fabtech lift used came with coils struts and everything for a bolt on ready kit. my buddy at Giant bent the beams to pull 2 more inches out so its about 8 in the front 4 in the rear.

now I need to get tires im not sure how 33's will look with a lift this high so im not sure about 35's yet. does anyone have any side shot comparisons of the two?

I'm certain there are plenty of pics with that set up on this forum. If you utilize the "search" field, you'll be able to find more than you need. Good luck.
