Hi all, just picked up my 86 F-150 4x4 5.0L on Saturday, and had a couple questions. Right now the emissions light is on, and I believe I just need to change out the Idle Air control valve to fix that problem. Does an 86 actually throw codes that can be read? What year F-150 body parts are interchangeable, like doors, beds, etc. ? I know that 80-86 should be, how about newer models?

The emissions light is probably for the EUL/IMS (EMW) module. Read this caption:



I've never known for sure if/how codes can be pulled from pre-'87 EFIs, but check the wiring colors at the red connector near the battery.

A newer bed will fit, but the body lines over the wheel arches changed in '87, so it won't look quite right unless you also change the front clip (every piece of sheet metal forward of the firewall, plus the bumper). Doors will interchange.
