Engine and trans identification

Do any of you know how to tell what kind of engine and transmission are in the truck I just bought? The Chilton manual tells me one thing then contradicts it self.
The VIN # is 1FTHX25GXLKA19146
Now from what I can tell the 10 number is the year and the engine size?
This is a 1990 XLT Lariat V8 and the gearing is very low auto trans and push button over drive switch on the dash. Were are the id marks the manual said there is a tag ,I can;t find any tags?
My 1990 F-150 was destroyed by an uninsured driver. Ill send you some pictures if you want. The accident was horrific. This guy was driving a Nissan maxima with the windows rolled up the temp was 115 and passed out. Hit me head on and destroyed my truck. He hit me so hard that he knocked me into the next lane and a 03 Tahoe hit me on the passenger side. I walked away with out a scratch.
Thanks,
Unbreakable Brian

According to your VIN you have a 2wd 1990 F250 XLT extended cab shortbed with a 351w built in Kansas. As far as your transmission, go to the drivers's door and check the sticker on the door jamb. Look for the letter under "trans".

That vin crosses to a 1990 F-250 with a 460 V8.

https://www.fleet.ford.com/maintenan...ls/default.asp

Now, to determine trans and axle, we need the trans and axle codes off the door jamb sticker. They cannot be determined by vin. I'm 99% sure that if it has overdrive, the tranny is a E4OD. The door jamb trans code for a E4OD is "E". The axle code will be 2 numbers or a letter and a number. The letter and number combination indicates limited slip. The second character indicates ratio and has to be looked up. Example - "19" is a 3.55, "H9" is a 3.55 LS.

The Ford vin decoder told me it has a 460, not a 351. It's almost definitely a E4OD tranny, check your other thread for axle info.

10th digit is the year, 8th is the engine.

Plain and simple, the catalyst sticker on the hood will tell you. As should the intake manifold if it is a 4.9,5.0, or 5.8. The vin decoder on this site says it's a 351w.

Ford.com's decoder says it's a 460. IB's decoder says it's a 351. The 8th character is "G". Rock Auto's parts catalog says a 460 is "G" and a 351 is "H" in a 1990 F-250.

Error report sent to IB.
