Transmission noise

While firing up the plow truck today i hear a noise and it seems to be coming from the tranny. When i give it gas it seems to go away but at idle it seems to bang away. now i took it for a drive and when i press the gas down it goes away but comes back after it shifts. It runs great what in the tranny could be making that noise, any ideas what to check any known issues with the trannies of that year??

When you check that, check the u-joints, heat shields, skidplate, brakes... Any of them might make a similar noise. To check u-joints, set the e-brake, chock a couple of tires, shift to N, crawl under, and see how far you can rotate the yoke at one end of the d'shaft before the one at the opposite end begins to move.
