1995 f-150 4x4 differential questions

I did a search and found info for other years but didn't know if anyone know for the 95 this info.

I am going to be replacing the gasket on the differential for my dads truck and didn't know what the capacity or type was for the gear oil when i fill it back up. I know it has the fill plug and when it starts to run out it full but does any one know if three quarts will be enough or what type is recommended I read someone say only synthetic but want to be sure for I mess his beloved truck. lol

According to Ford, the 8.8" axle takes 5.5 pints of 80W90. There's not a lot of 80W90 out there though. I use 75W90 synthetic. If you have a Traction-Lok Ls, be sure to add 4 oz of friction modifier

80W90 is the recommendation across the board for 1995's. 75W90 is acceptable. Synthetic not required. Capacity is anywhere from 5.5 to 8.3 pints depending on which exact axle you have. Fill it till it spills except with a Dana 60, that one you leave 1/4 to 9/16 inch down.

The 8.8" is your rear diff. The front diff on a 4WD F150 is a D44. It takes 3.6 pints.

How do we know for sure that it has a 8.8" Ford rear?

What else is going to be in the back of a 1995 F150?

The charts that I use show both the 8.8 and 9 inch Ford, and a few Danas. You may very well be right, but it's possible it doesn't have a 8.8.

No 9" on a 95. They'd been out of production for a decade or more by then.
Danas in the rear are only used in the F250 and up

Agreed. Nothing but an 8.8 in a 95' half ton.

Nope, wouldn't even be possible to run a 9" after '87 for the requirement of the tone ring and speed sensor for RABS/cruse/PSOM uses.

I'm pretty sure the last year for 9" was '85 and the first year of 8.8 was '83.
