Can you ID this truck from these pics?

I posted another thread, https://www.f150online.com/forums/pr...h-f-100-a.html, where I am going to get a "new" pickup truck. I think it's a 73 but I'm not sure. I went over to my parent's house and spent 2 hours going through old photo's trying to find a decent picture.

For all my trouble, this is all I could come up with:

I would appreciate any information you can give me! I know it's not much to go on.

The vehicle ID plate should give you that info.

I wish it were that easy. The truck is 330 miles from here. To get that information I would have to get my grandmother to try and find the ID plate which really wouldn't work out too well as she's in her 80's. I know it's supposed to just be on the door, but that would be like pulling teeth through the phone. It'll be sometime next month at best before I can put my hands on it. I'm just trying to get an idea of exactly what it is I'm trying to put my hands on.

I think the grill dates it to a 73-75. I'm fairly certain it's a v8 and I know it's a 3 speed column shift because I've driven it. Does anybody know if there were certain engine / trans combo's that didn't exist? I know for example that in an 86 iroc, if you had a manual, it was a 305 instead of a 350. I was curious if such "rules" applied for the f100.

If you're sure it is a v8, there are a few suspects. It has either a 302, 360 or 390 most likely.

Looks like a '73 to me. I had an orange '73 Explorer with a 360. Rode rough as hell--toward the end of my wife's pregnancy we drove up and down a lot of bumpy roads in that truck.

it's definantly older than a '78-'79 due to the grill but they used that grill up to '77

if it has an column shift then it's either a straight 6 or a small v-8

these were the motors avalable

1973-1977 - 240 in³ (3.9 L) straight-6
1973-1977 - 300 in³ (4.9 L) straight-6
1973-1977 - 352 in³ (5.8 L) FE V8
1973-1976 - 360 in³ (5.9 L) FE V8
1973-1977 - 390 in³ (6.4 L) FE V8
1973-1977 - 302 in³ (5.0 L) Windsor V8
1973-1979 - 460 in³ (7.5 L) 385 V8, 225hp

From what I have been able to learn from looking at restoration parts, the grill actually changed slightly in 76 & 77. This means it's a 73-75. The same catalog that I learned that in also basically said that there were no external difference between 73 and 75.

My same catalog again tells me that the 460 was only offered in the F-150 and I know it's an F-100 so that's out. A different source tells me that the 390 was only available with an automatic in 73, it doesn't mention 74 or 75. At this point I don't really know what exactly I can expect to find. I was kinda hoping for a big block, but there seems to be lots more out there available for the 302. I may just have to wait and see. At this point it's looking like I'm gonna try to go get it next month.

No its not, 76's had different grills. They are right, its a 73-75. I think it is a camper special becuase of the tie downs you can see on the bed side and tailgate. 302's were not available in 73, and the F-150 was not available until 74, so its not a 460. Sorry to not be more help, but if we keep saying its not stuff, eventually we will get it

I'm guessing a 1974 F100 just from the grille.

Would a camper special have any badges that says it's a camper special? I ask because last time I saw the truck (last September) I don't recall seeing anything that said camper special. Obviously from the picture, and from my childhood, I remember that it did have a camper on it at one time. I'm about 99.9% certain it has Ranger badges on it. Were Ranger and Camper Special mutually exclusive?

302's were not available in 73, and the F-150 was not available until 74, so its not a 460.
If you don't mind me asking, where did you get this information? This sounds similar to what's available on Wikipedia, but I believe that information is not completely correct. You're right about the 460 not being available, but I've found 2 sources that says the 302 was available in 73. I'm not trying to argue, but simply understand. All of these are just a few years before I was even born so I don't have the first hand experience to go on.

Sorry to not be more help, but if we keep saying its not stuff, eventually we will get it
Don't be sorry by any means. Any feedback, input, conjecture, etc, I consider as positive. You're absolutely correct, by ruling out everything it can't be, we can only be left with what it is.
