blow by?

i have a 82 f100, with a 4.9, it has 212.000 miles, and it runs good, but im getting air and oil coming out of the valve cover oil cap, can someone tell me what might be wrong? thanks

Change the PCV valve ... If that does not work try a new oil cap.

And if all those dont work try an engine rebuild. If blow by is your only issue with those miles you are doing pretty good.

As I said in my response to your other post, if the plugs are not oil fouled, it's not blow-by. If the plugs are OK, just replace the PCV

wouldn't that be grounds for failing a leak down test?

Absolutely. Or a wet/dry compression test
But he may not have a leak down tester or a compression tester. If the plugs are clean and tan, he's not getting any substantial blow-by.

hi all, well i checked out the plugs, and they were wet, and a friend of mine and i checked compression, and it leaked down, pretty quick. so it must be the rings. thanks for all the great info, you all know your stuff. and by the way i bought a replacement 4.9. and plan on working on it when my son gets his bronco, out of my garage. thanks again, jim
