1997 F-250 E4OD 460 - What transfer case is under these?
I'm about to purchase a 1997 F-250 EFOD 460 EFI truck with a manual Transfer Case. The transfer case on it is Cracked and would like to go ahead and get one coming in.
What transfer case is on these trucks? I have read a Barg Warner 4407 Manual Shift unit. Is it the same between the Auto's and 5spd trucks?
Thanks,
Justin

If the 97 is the same as a 96, the F-250 uses a 44-07.
AFAIK the manual and auto versions of the T/C are the same internally but differ slightly externally; the detent plate/shift lever is transmission specific. The ZF and C6 use one version, the E4OD another and the 4R70W yet a third. These can be swapped from case to case if necessary.

The 96 Service Manual lists the applications for the manual shift 13-56 T/C as "F-150, F-350 with 137-inch Wheelbase, Chassis Cab with E4OD Transmission and Bronco"
It lists applications for the manual shift 44-07 HD T/C as "F-250 and F-350 Except 137-Inch Wheelbase Chassis Cab with EOD Transmission"
I have no idea what's so different about the 137" F-350 that it cannot use the heavy duty T/C
