umm..... i have seen 4v intakes, i know they make headers... but its a low end motor so that wont do you much good ... so i guess a cam would do you the best good over all. and a cold air i guess would help, but you aint goin to make this truck a 10second 1/4 mile slip producer either, the 300 is by all aspects a REAL TRUCK motor it aint fast.it aint fuel efficeint, it aint smooth, but it IS tough as hell and will pull like hell. you can pour sand in the intake and those motors will keep on keepin on.

Read the FAQs in the Big Six forum. Basically the 300 responds to careful head work, especially the bowls and valve guides.

The 300 will never be a "performance" motor, no matter how much cash you put into it, and head work isn't cheap by any means. Sure, you can boost it's numbers but you'll never make a sports car out of it. If you want your truck to really move you probably are better with a swap. Guess it all depends on how much money you have to spend, and how fast you really want the truck to go. If you just want a bit more pep around town, then a few 300 mods may satisfy you, but for big gains a swap is the way to go. These trucks are heavy and need a lot of power to really move.
The 300 is one of the best motors Ford ever built and it is dead reliable but slow as hell. Think it was only 160hp stock, but with like 260lbs(?) of torque? The motor can do a lot of work, it just can't do it very fast.
For performance the 5.0 is probably your best bet. It wasn't as well suited to truck use as the 300 of 351, it was a higher-revving motor and didn't have as much low end pull.

My 300 will cruise 70-80 Mph on the highway all day long, might not get up to it as fast as the V8-er's, but if I want get-up-and-go I'll get a car.
As far as the question of the OP, just probably easier and more cost effective to do an engine swap to a V8. Good luck and keep us posted to what you do.

See, that's a really subjective answer. You could get 6 different people to put something together that they think fits that description, and you'd have 6 different results. Let's start with some questions.
What tranny does it have?
What are the rear gears?
What size tires?
How much are you willing to spend?
What state do you live in, and will this ever be inspected for emissions?
Do you object to having to always use super unleaded, or do you want something that will run on regular unleaded?
When you say you want more "power", do you define "power" as speed or strength?
Will this be your daily driver?
Will this be driven off road?
Will this be driven more on city streets or highways?
Answer those questions and we'll go from there. Help us help you.

yea, dont ya know, decals add 10 horsepower
From what i was told when I had my straight six, the stock cam was about as good as you can get, since they were made to pull to all hell anyway... of course, correct me if im wrong
Here's a site that has alot of good performance parts for the big six shooter:
http://www.classicinlines.com/home.asp
and this too:
http://www.cliffordperformance.net/
although both can cost some coin...
