Question Power drain when tyring to start - prob = bad battery

Hi folks

I have a 95 F150 4.9L (6I) and as soon as I turn the ignition to 'start' all power is drained and won't start (ie. dash lights go out) and looses all power.
I've changed the starter, solenoid and I still have the problem.
Any one got any ideas?

Thanks

Nope... not battery... I had just started it moments (2 min) earlier and worked fine all day. Just turned it off to run inside for a sec and then when I got back out... it wouldn't even turn over... it just does nothing... no clicking doesn't even try to start.. just goes 'dead'

Bad battery cables or dirty connections at the battery.

Next time it happens, take your jumper cables and jumper the (-) battery post directly to the block and try again. If it starts you've got a bad (-) cable.

The (-) battery cables on your year truck are famous for rotting out at the intermediate chassis ground on the RH framerail.

If/when you get it restarted check you voltage at the battery.
13.8 to 14.8 volts while running is correct.
If not you may need an alternator.

With the engine and key off you should have at least 12 volts at the battery.
When you try and start the battery voltage should not go below 10 volts.
Either of these things don't happen and you need a new battery.

I agree with the possibilty also of a bad battery cable/conection.

Battery connections are very good with clean connections and it shows 12.5v and when I try to start there is no voltage drop or any changes in voltage.
Using charger with 'start boost' there is still no change in symptoms.
i.e. ignition on... gas pump is heard, dash lights up fine... but when turn ignition to 'start' everything goes blank.
(Thanks in advance!) and Happy New Year!!!

Charged battery... would crank over then no power symptom.
Battery was tested and did not hold a charge so it was replaced under warranty.

Thanks Everyone!

You need to find out what killed the battery.
Disconnect the (+) cable and put a 12V test light between it and the the (+) terminal. With the ignition off, if it lights up, there's a drain somewhere in the system which you need to find or it will kill the new battery as well.
