A good friend of mine built a Crew-Cab F150 with a blown 460. It was on the cover of Truckin a couple of years ago. If i remember right the engine swap was no problem. The engine was left stock execpt for the Kenne Bell charger. His name is Bill Thomas and if you wanted to get all your questions answered, his shop # is 909-888-1014. He is the owner of "Full Effect". Hope this help.

Check out www.ford-power.com. They can hook you up with a 500 horsepower 460. Or a 380 horsepower 351. Or whatever you want. Check into emissions legality. Anyhow, you can't beat 500 ponies BEFORE superchargine. Augh!!! :-) And keep ME posted on your progress!!

Mike: Wow.. that's a great site.... got me thinking about doing a 351.. but still like the sound of a Big Block... hmm. Do you know what would be involved in going 351? Do I need a new comp and trans for that?
Guys... thanks for all the input.. keep it coming... you have beena great help already, and it's much appreciated.

A 351W will bolt up to your E4OD. You will need a flywheel for a truck 351W. I don't think that motorsport 380HP 351 is a very good truck engine. It sounds like a dragstrip/hotrod engine that has to be reved to get power and has a rough idle. Be careful. I think you would be happier with a 460. Did you consider a 93-95 Lightning 351? It would bolt to your engine mounts and trans too! You would still have to sort out the computer stuff. You might want to look for a wrecked/worn out Lightning too!

The 351 Winsor is NOT a big block. The Cleveland 351 is a Big block, and finding these are VERY rare. Oh ya and the Modified 351/400 is a big block. I would assume converting these to EFI is quite an ordeal too.
The 351W in a lightning is a great engine. Come from SVT with a 240hp, GT-40 heads and some other stuff. This is a good way to go for power too. And easly to find

As warranties run thin, and the time nears I'm thinking more and more about this project. I'm really leaning towards doing the 460... but thoughts of a complete 302 rebuild and TWIN TURBOS have crossed my mind. I'd like to get some input from you guys... 460 or Twin Turbos???? Why or why not?

IMO, forget the twin turbos. If you want forced induction on your 302, get a supercharger kit. There are several available for around $3500. The installation would be easier than turbos, there is no turbo lag, and it maybe more reliable. You will probably have to rebuild your engine unless it is in EXCELLENT condition. You might consider lowering the compression ratio during the rebuild (like Ford did on the new Lightning) to lessen detenation problems with the supercharger. Also, you need to beef up your E4OD. There are kits available for that too. This is probably the easiest way to go IMO.

Pastmaster: Nothing wrong... but haven't you ever craved insane power? LOL.... it's just something to do, ya know.. I want some kinda project. The 302 has proved to be a great engine, with minor mods... and I'm sure it'd be very potent with even more. But I'm looking for something unusual, and on the edge of insane I guess :-)

hey ive done a 460 swap in a 84 bronco carb, and planning a 460 efi swap in my 93 f150 4x4 reg cab short box. please know that an efi 460 is not a beast stock they only make 225 hp and 345 ft lbs, and to modifiy it and have it work you must do an mass air conversion ( kinda hard but doable with 302 wiring and wiring diagrame or 1000$+ for a kit) but you can make big power and torque once done. gas milage on a stock 302 is rated at 12 miles a gallon stock so that isnt to bad and getting that or better out of a 460 is good but you cant be overly concered about gas if you want a 460! they are easy to drop in but will need a tranny with the engine as ford dose not have removable bell housings. so best to get a donner truck. ive also built a 393 stroker fir my 82 f150 from a 351w i have 6500$ invested (joys of living in canada pay way more fir performance parts) but is making 450 hp and 502 ft lbs tuned for bottom end power and plowes through everything, as did my bronco, if you have any questions with theas project ask away be glad to give my input
