Question push rod, or short causing starter problems

hi, my 88 f150 5.0 fi has some problems.
I replaced the starter solenoid and then gained a new problem. I lost power from the ignition. After checking the forum I saw that there is a push rod problem or maybe a short in the harness, and that changing the steering tilt gave me power from the ignition again.
BUT...it still won't crank. I will go to Autozone and check the starter.
Does anyone have feedback on the "push rod short" from what I can tell the push rod isn't broken.]
Thanks!

Is the rod moving back and forth. You should be able to reach underneath and check to see if its moving while turning your key. If not, there is a piece inside the steering wheel that will need to be replaced. Does it have a switch down by the pedals?

Yes, the rod is still moving.
And I think there is a switch at the floor, but I don't know which one it is.
If there is a short in the wiring would it have fried the switch?

you can remove the switch and try to manually push the slide (probably with a screw driver) and see if it starts or see if there is an adjustment try to slide switch toward the rod. If that works, that would mean there might be an adjustment problem. Or the switch is worn. I have an 89 and that stupid piece inside the steering column would always need to be replaced.

Did you tried putting a screwdriver across the solonoid posts? Is the solonoid on the starter or is it on fender?

Sounds like you left a wire off or put it on the wrong post of the starter solenoid.
