The Mitzu tranny is for rangers, not even close to being for a 300/302/351w. Also, everyone is quick to knock the Mazda M5OD-R2, but I beat the wee out of them daily. However their enemy is high horsepower mods, so your better choice is the ZF S5-42 or 47 from a 300 or 351w heavy duty truck. Click the tranny info page for more specific details.

Unfortunately you are unable to use the ZF S6-600 found in the newer superdutys as the bolt pattern is for the bell is only for the modulars and 7.3L. Also you would need to use the NVG transfer case anyway.

i thought mitsubishi made a tranny for the full size pickups also. i thought they were used for the 250 and 350. oh well. i'd actually get a c6 with a shift kit and have a b&m slap shifter. they are fun as hell to drive .

Adrian- im on my 4th m5r2 since ive started driving my truck (16). And my motor is stock.
matt- i posted it twice because my apartment internet sucks. and i have a 79 f100 with a 306 c4 with a tans-pak from bm. it shifts stupidly hard and it does get quite annoying. (even though at 60mph you can slap it in 2nd and it light up the tires

thats probably because the tires and lift. i dont care what geart ratio your running, that is alot on a half ton pickup. alot of people i know tend to try and speed shift there trucks with this kind of setup to get up to speed quicker. i've seen it where they screw up the forks and even pull the shifter right out and destroyed the gears. the mazda tranny did have issues but i bet you were doing the same thing and just dont realise it. but you would definately want something that can hold up.

The old Ford 4 speeds are not a bolt on in a newer truck. Their bellhousings are designed around an external clutch linkage. The late model trucks use that stupid annular slave cylinder with no linkage. The small-block ZF S5-47 from an early 90s F250/350 4WD is equally as strong (rated for 470 ft-lbs of torque) and will bolt directly to both his engine and his transfer case. It uses the exact same annular slave cylinder and has 5 speeds, including a synchronized granny 1st and an OD 5th. It solves all his problems in the simplest possible way.
