Power steering pump pulley

92 f150, 5.0, 5spd manual - Does anybody know if the power steering pump pulley is supposed to spin freely if the belt is off? I was checking my pulleys and it's the only one that doesn't spin. Not sure if that's right or not.

Not freewheelin' spin, but you can turn it by hand, and feel the pump push back a bit once a turn.

I can turn it by hand and I can feel the pump, but I'm also feeling something grinding. It feels like gravel. That can't be good am I right?

Get a power steering pulley puller and replace the pump.
Put an inline filter on the low pressure return line and you will have a pump that will last forever.

Agreed. Ford doesn't have a great track record when it comes to p/s pumps. Definitely not something I'd buy used.

Sounds like another good reason to convert to manual steering.

Thats what I did and I have never looked back.
