Chips for these trucks do nothing but make you have to use premium gas. Skip it.

The same as any other engine: get more fuel/air mixture in and out.

To that end:
MAF conversion
GT-40 3-line or Gt-40P heads
The correct headers for the heads you use (the "P" heads take different ones)
A Crane 2020 or 2030 cam
An Edelbrock truck EFI manifold and T/B
A Crane Hi-6 or MSD-6AL ignition box
A high flow cat and a larger diameter and freer flowing cat-back exhaust.

And even though they won't add power they will add performance 4.10:1 gears and a limited slip if you don't have one.

Thumbs up Welcome!

some tuners make the chip, it's normally a basic chip to add timing and fuel, called singe phase tuning. Your truck uses speed density/mass air, "StrangeRanger" gave some great modifications you could do. Because it is a speed density/mass air system on your truck your kind of limited on how much you do because of its adaptibility of the mods, its ability to monitor the airflow, timing, and...on. Do a search here, look for an article called "project MPG". It gives some great tips about what really works for our trucks like intake upgrades, exhaust, tuning, it is really good stuff.

Good luck
Randy

I'd do a search here on the Superchips as well, a number of people with the older trucks were very pleased with the results. With the stock shifts, many think a chip is worth it for the better shifting alone.

If you plan on doing a lot of mods, I'd put the chip off until later in the game, in conjunction with the other stuff. That way you can get a custom chip for your mods. Speed density systems don't adapt easily to changes as compared to mass air systems, but with custom tunes you can do just about anything you want.

Yeah the superchips are nice but a little expensive for our years and I have heard people that they actually made their MPG worse. I have a 92 w/351 and was looking at the one hypertech makes, seemed reasonably priced but then again you have to use the premium gas. I was looking mainly to use a chip to improve the shifting of my tranny. Aynone have any experience with the hypertech?

The chips for these trucks just play with the timing a bit, something you can do yourself for free. Somewhere I saw a tutorial to adjust the timing a bit, install a hotter coil/new cap/rotor, and run premium gas for a noticeable gain in engine performance. It was on one of the big f-150 sites, can't remember where though.

Go to fullsizebronco.com and search for "sixlitre upgrade". It is a new coil, wires, plugs gapped at 0.055", cap and rotor. Timing is advanced to 13.5* from the stock 10*. Running premium fuel is not neccisary. I did this with the 92 and gained 3 MPG.
