I this this F-150 today. It was an 8 lug 4x4 97 or newer F-150 with 7700 on the badge. I was curious as to know if anyone knew anything about it. I have never seen that before and apparently it must be something special commercial vehic. or something. Anyway chime in if you know any details.

 

its actually 7 lugs. the 7700 stands for the GVW of the truck. the 7700 has been around for a while and they have a new version which still has the 7 lugs but it now just call a F150 HEAVY DUTY.

 

When the 1997 F-150 body style came out, the F-250LD (light duty) took the new body style, but the F-250HD (heavy duty) and F-350 stayed with the previous style. In 1999, the new Super Dutys came out with a similar body style to the F-150. At this time, they simply took the F-250LD and rebadged it a F-150 7700. The F-250HD became a Super Duty.

Essentially, the F-150 7700 is a light duty 3/4 ton truck. It has 7 lug wheels and the 10.25" rear axle out of the F-250.

 

Cal-Trans around here uses them because they can carry more weight than a regular F150.

 

I had/have an F250 LD. My dad drives it now since I bought my '04 a few years ago. They're interesting trucks.
