1986 f150 lift

i want to put a lift kit on my 1986 f150 but i know absolutely nothing about lift kits so here we go...i want the truck to be extremely capable off road as i can pretty much off road 3 days a week.. i also want it too look extremely good when im driving around town as well.. so what i was thinking was a 4 inch suspension lift... how much do you think that lift would cost? what would be the preferred lift to get (from what company etc)? what is the advantage of a suspension lift over a body lift?

keep in mind i am a complete noob to lift kits..

thanks in advance

Ebay is always a good place for lifts i would avoid tough country and rough country. I just purchased mine for around 900 and it came with all the good stuff included extended radius arms and shocks. It was a **** Cepek brand the guy may still have some. Keep in mind any bigger than 33" tires you will probably need to change differential gear ratios. And Body lifts are just out right cheap i think. They over time will sag and can cause extra fatiuge on the bolts and on the frame. In an accident body lift spacers can sheer off and ruin alot of things. Plus suspension lifts give you more articulation and wheel travel with the bigger springs and shocks.

I had a tuff country lift on my old jeep wagoneer and the shocks started leaking fluid after 6 months, mt extended radius arm cracked and my plastic rear blocks sagged and then i went to put a rough country lift on to replace the tuff country crap and the guy at my local 4X4 shop told me that was just as big of a waste of money and time if i went to the rough country lift so i went with a trailmaster which worked great till the day i sold it and havnt heard any complaints of it since.
