Transfer Case Goes into Neutral? 92 4x4

I have a 1992 XLT with push button 4X4, 351W, E4OD. It has 118k, standard cab, short bed. So here is what is happening. I hit the button for 4X4 and everything seems to engage. I am driving along and let off the gas for some reason (stop sign, curves etc), when I step back on the gas its like the truck is in neutral. No power to the front or rear wheels. RPMS come up but nothing is getting to the wheels. If I put the truck in neutral, press the button to disengage 4X4 and then press it again the 4X4 engages again.

A couple of questions.

1) Anybody seen this before?
2) How does the relay engage the 4X4? Electric motor, vacuum solonoid?

Never heard of that happening before!!! I have a '93 w/push button 4x4. There is an electric "shift motor" mounted on the back of the x-fer case. No vacuum anything!! 'Mo
