Hello, i Recently have gotten my old 87' f150 running again.

when im in 2wheel drive in reverse especially and i go backwards it will sometimes make a grinding noise and stop when i make a complete stop, it does it when going forward also, not as often as backwards. thing is when i put it in 4wheel drive it stops, the sound comes like its coming from the rear end.

Is the transfer case completely disengaged? Are the u-joints in good shape?

 

U-joints are good, the light doesnt say 2wheel untill you accelerate fast, if you floor it the 4wheel light turns on untill you let off the gas. when you have it in 4wheel drive and go down the highway there is a loud screaming sound, when you take it with the hubs engaged you get the grinding noise and then a clunk then it seems to go away.

dont know if this matters but there is a loud squeaking noise that is affected by speed.
