Broken gas gauge

My 86 F150s gas gauge doesn't work. The old owner said it worked for him but it doesn't now.

Is it expensive to have fixed? can i do it myself?

It only has a 10-12 gallon tank so I have no idea when Im going to run out.

you will need to drop the tank. Could be stuck float or bad sending unit. Both are inside the tank. Check the fuses first.

And I think your tank is bigger than 10-12 gallons.

Crap I was hoping I wouldn't have to drop the tank. I hope it is just the fuse. Where would the fuse be for the gas gauge?

The previous owner said it was 10-12 and it does look pretty small.

Don't drop the tank, that is the hard way to do it. Have some friends come over and remove the bed. Once you do that, you can get to the tank, wires, and sending units. Otherwise, you have to deal with draining the fuel, spills, and possibly causing damage to it. Or if you have an engine hoist, you can just make some 2x4's to go in the bed and lift it that way.

I checked the fuses and it didnt even have one for the aux fuel. It required a 10A but I only had 5A and 15A so I put the 5A in and it didn't do anything.

Now today when I turn the key on the needle comes up alittle bit. But I could just not have any gas and its working now. Ill fill it up tomorrow and see.
