Question 1992 Throttle Body Options

Anyone ever got rid of the dang dual port throttle body and replaced it with another years throttle body? If modifications were need please advise, its just so hard to work with the dual model for mods.

Thanks.

Not aware of any single throttle body modifications.

If it were a good idea, I'm sure one of the aftermarket manufacturers would have been all over it.

Probably has to do with keeping available real estate to a minimum, sort of like 4 valves per cylinder instead of two huge valves.

I'd imagine you'd have to go with a whole new manifold. Either aftermarket or maybe one off a Mustang.

The dual T/B and split upper intake is designed to increase intake velocity and improve volumetric efficiency at lower to medium RPMs, generally considered a virtue in a truck engine.

Would you happen to know which years would work on a 92?

Thanks.

Just my opinion, but short of going with the larger aftermarket twin throttle body setup, most people don't like the results after the intake swaps. There are a few here that did swaps to go to Mustang style single throttle body setups, and they loss of low end torque just wasn't what they were looking for.

You might want to do a search in this forum, I know several had done it and it seemed all regretted it.

I could be wrong, but any manifold from the mid-80's (whenever they went to EFI) on up should bolt on. Whether or not it will be compatible with your ECU is a different story.

And as others have said, the dual-port throttle body was designed for bottom end torque, and switching to a single-port style TB will kill some of that power. Judging by the other mods in your sig, a lift kit and 33" tires, you may want to skip this mod.

Thanks

Thanks for the input, yeah I guess I will drop that idea. I am adding Bassani headers today, and completely rebuilt the front end this week

Take a look at the Edelbrock intake and T/B. They're truck-specific and claim some substantial increases without giving up low RPM performance. http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive_...l-inject.shtml
