Let me preface this with saying (and it will probably be obvious if you keep reading) that I don't know much about exhaust systems and what makes a muffler compatible for a particular motor/truck.

Found a guy that was giving away his stock (perfect condition) muffler/tailpipe from a 2006 F150 (a takeoff for aftermarket system). I agreed to go pick it up (hey, it was free). When I got there, I was shocked about the size of the muffler.

I think I can figure out if I can physically get it to fit onto my truck - but I have no idea if it is even a good combination for my 88 4.9l 6 cylinder truck (i think his was the 5.4 v8).

? Should I try to make it work - or scrap it save myself the headache/expense of putting a square (but free) peg into a round (not worth very much) hole.

 

If you can make it fit, it will work fine. Biggest problem will be the inlet/outlet of the muffler fitting the diameter of your exhaust pipe. There are various reducers available that should work..
