Gutting front convertor on 92

I pretty much know how to gut the convertor, but how do I get to it to do it? The truck is a 92 5.0. Does the front converter come off at all or is it a cut and weld job to gut it? Any help would be appreciated.

First clean out both chambers but removing the second cat and leaving the first attached. I used a prybar to crush all the "cat crap" then used a coathanger to get the big chunks out. The little chunks were blown out by the engine. Cut with a air saw or sawsall so it will be easier to weld back. I experienced a great increase in MPG as well as HP. My 5.0 went from 7-9 mpg city to 15.5 and HWY is around 24 mpg.
