Question 1996 Gas Tank Size

Just got a '96 Eddie Bauer, 4wd, Shortbed, with the 4.9 I'm liking it so far, but this thing sure doesn't get very far. At 14 mpg, I need to fill up around 200 miles. Do these all have small tanks or has mine been changed? And what's the best way to haul more gas, swap out the tank for a bigger one, or put one under the toolbox?

Thanks,
Jodie

A 4WD regular cab short bed has a single 18.2 gallon tank
If you want to give up the under-bed storage of the spare tire, you could fit a Bronco tank which is 32 gallons

Perfect, is that from a '96 also? Or is there a range I can look for?

I'm sure there's a range but IDK what it is. The junkyard of your choice should have a crossover list

'90-96 Bronco gas tanks will fit easily, but you'll need the Bronco tank skidplate.

Click the black Bronco in my signature & look in the EFI Fuel Pump album. It shows how the tank is mounted.
