How to install serpantine belt in 94' f150?

Well, my belt blew off last night and i need to put a new one on, i cant seem to figure it out with the diagram.

Is there a step bt step for installing one? Any tips? What pully should i start on?

Serpentine belt

Hey Papadye, the diagram is pretty easy to follow, just take a deep breath, find out which pulley is your tensioner, the spring loaded one, and go clockwise following the diagram. I had to do mine twice before I found out I went the wrong way around one of the pulleys. DEEP BREATH, go slow. Good luck.

we are right now putting a new tensioner and belt on the company truck its a 95 F250

if you have no luck yet i could let you know how we did it

If it's the 300, the tensioner is near the "top" driver side of the motor. Easily accessible. If it's a V8, it's farther down and significantly more of a p.i.t.a to release. If possible, get an assistant to hold the tensioner back(though if either of you is of ahem...extended size this could prove difficult. Otherwise it really is just following the diagram, not a whole lot of advice to give.

I got it on this mourning, it was super easy.

but......it wont tension up, i think the tensioner broke when the belt flew off, is there surpossed to be a black plastic part on the tensioner? Or does it ride on the metal part?

I can take a picture if you dont know what iam talking about...

You can buy aftermarket replacement idler/tensioner pullies with bearings for ~$10ea. Much cheaper than buying the whole OE tensioner, and you get a LLT warranty.

Looks like i need a new tensioner pully.

Are the idler and tensioner pulleys the same diameter?

1995 5.0L


tensioner one is metal


idler one is plastic

just replaced the whole tensioner assembly a bit ago on it, napa has them for 36 bucks, gates brand in white box

dirt cheap

Tip

put a breaker bar on the tension pulley to hold it and use safety wire to hold it while you are threading the belt on to the pulleys

yep and its really easy on these, just need a long ratchet or bar and a socket, these tensioners dont have a ton of resistance, as per say on front wheel drive cars and such,

simple

also if the belt flew off then you may want to replace the tensioner because the info that comes with the new tensioner states that you cannot cut the belt off because of the shock of the tensioner unloading when the belt comes off suddenly will damage it
