So, my dads 88 has been dead since mid August, due to what he thought was a dead fuel pump (The one on the frame rail). So, for Christmas, I got him a brand new fuel pump, which cost me $130. I decided that I'd go ahead and throw that bad boy on, and get it running before he got home from work on Friday.

So, I am underneath the truck, taking off the old fuel pump. It is about 15* F outside, and all I got on is a pair of jeans, and a Carrhart zip up sweater. About 15 or so minutes later, the new fuel pump is on, and I decided that I'll go ahead and try to get her running. I ran to the house, grabbed the keys, jumped into the truck, and tried to start it up. I turned the key, and nothing happens.

Dead Battery.

I pull my Jeep over to the passenger side of the truck, and then go into the garage to grab the jumper cables. The jumper cables that just so happened to be in my moms old Escort, which we traded in on a 97 Jeep Wrangler. I put the battery charger that my dad has had for years on the battery, plug it in, and head up to the lot where my mom got the Jeep.

This lot is the same one that is selling the 87 F150 that I was looking at in another thread, but decided to pass on it since it has a really bad oil leak, and the tranny is starting to go as well.

I decided to try the truck out while I was there, and then after I got back, I asked if I could get the jumpers out of my moms car. They handed me the keys to that, however, they cleaned it all out, and took the cables with them. The owner of the lot said he would talk with his shop manager, and call me so I could pick them up.

On my way home, my mom calls and tells me that she found the jumpers out in the garage. So I sped home with only about an hour left before my dad got home.

When I go there, I threw the jumpers on, and tried to start the truck up. Now, it turned over, but it just would not start. I got back under it, and had my sister turn the key while I was checking the pumps in the tanks. The front tank was dead, and the back one was making a really weird clicking noise.

I decided to give up, and have my dad look at it, as he is a much better mechanic then I am.

My dad got under the truck on Saturday (which, by the way, it was 40* F outside ). He started thinking of the last time he filled up with gas, and so he went to the station with our 5 gallon gas can.

I decided to look at the old fuel pump again. However, after looking at it, I noticed that it looked fairly new. Then, I remembered that the gas gauge did not work on the truck.

THERE WAS NO ****ING GAS!

5 gallons later, and the truck fired right up.

The clicking in the rear tank stopped after it was filled.

All in all, I had a good time working on the truck. Wish I could have kept that $130, but at least my dad has a brand new pump on his truck.
