Oil for 95 F150 with 300 I-6

I was wondering what would be the best oil to use for a 95 F150 with a 300 I-6. I have about 155K on it, and since about 50K it has had only Mobil 1 10w-30 synthetic. I heard that it may be better to use Rotella T HD synthetic, but I wanted to see what everyone's opionion was on this.

If you begin to notice any rattling or other symptoms of low pressure (esp. in the summer), you could go to a SLIGHTLY heavier oil during the hot months & back to the thin stuff in winter.

Mine was a junkyard engine, and I don't know how it was treated before I got it, so I use 20W50 in summer & 10W40 in winter.

Also, there is some question now about M1 being a TRUE synthetic any more. Mobil came down hard on Castrol when it started marketing highly refined dino oil as "100% Synthetic", but now many people think Mobil is doing the exact same thing.

We have a 95 with the I6 engine that has always had Mobil One 10w30 changed every 7,000 miles (hwy), has 220K on it now with no problems whatsoever. Unless you are experiancing problems like low oil pressure or excessive oil consumption keep using the 10w30. The thicker stuff is harder to pump through the engine during a cold start.

Just read this today - Oil formulated for diesel engines, like Rotella T contains more zinc and phosphates that oil for gasoline engines. Those two chemicals help better protect the engine against friction and wear...But it is bad for your catalytic convertor and oxygen sensors so its best not to use it in modern EFI gas engines.

I have had several 300's in my life, the last one was a 94, I always used 20/50 in the summer/spring/fall and 10/40 in the winter

all of the past generation pushrod v8's I would recommend the same

depending on where you live and how cold fall and spring are, you may chose to put 10/40 in it then
