Header ?

I have a 92", E4od, stock 5.0, that has cracked exhaust manifolds. My ? is,
I have a set of SS shortie headers for a 92", 5.8 truck. My local exhaust shop said they can modify the Y pipe to fit the 5.8 headers, remove the rear cat (I have two) and fit it with a 2-1/2 in, dual 2-1/4 outs. The rear cat has to go to enable them to exit in front of the rear tire where I want.
My ? is, will it help or hurt my highway gas millage since I get between 16-18 mpg. (just curious)
My 5.0 is coming out in the spring and being replaced with a carbed & lightly modified 5.8, the Y pipe is in very good condition except at the manifold flanges and can easily be refit to the 5.8, the cat isn't an issue for me and I'll be keeping the exhaust system i'm installing.
I just don't want to spend the $$ on CI manifolds for the 5.0 since I already have the headers and Flomaster 50 to use with the 5.8.
Was just wondering about the mpg since I'm told it will go both ways, depending on who I talk to. Can anyone help me increase my knowledge on the subject?
Thanks, Hobolabo

It will most definantly improve your gas mileage,horspower,torque..the headers will improve flow, cuttin the cat will improve flow, and flowmaster is simply the best muffler for any type of application

Exhaust

Thanks foreman400x
I'm going to go for it and see. I like the more power part and hope the MPG will improve as well.
Thanks, Howard
